The US has said that Iran’s supply of combat drones to Russia violates UN sanctions and that Russia will be held accountable for war crimes committed using these drones.

The US agrees with France and the UK that the supply of these drones violates UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the US State Department said.
This resolution, linked to the Iranian nuclear deal, prohibits the transfer of certain military technologies by Iran.
Ukraine has identified the drones (UAVs) as Iranian Shahed-136 drones.
